Site Appraisal

There are technical considerations when selecting a site, as well as servicing and aesthetic considerations. We understand what distillers need from their site and we often carry out early assessments to help select the best place for a new distillery building.

Every distillery needs lots of water for process cooling and potable purposes. An early assessment will determine whether this can come from a watercourse or from a borehole. Is that water soft or hard, does it need treatment? What about power capacity on or near to the site, what infrastructure is nearby?

There are also the  checks which any developer must carry out; visibility at access junctions for the the ease of material and visitor’s vehicle movements. Would the site impact in some way upon the delivery of raw materials?

Of course beauty is also a key requirement for any visitor focused building… how can the building be positioned to maximise the views, the light, links to significant features on the site.

This work can be an early exercise, indeed we often assess many sites before selecting the perfect location.
